Unveiling of the memorial monument in honor of the first Chief Designer B.L. Shaposhnik

December 15, 2016 VOLAT (MWTP, JSC) unveiled the memorial monument in honor of Boris L. Shaposhnik, the first Chief Designer of special wheel tractors.

The event coincides with the birth of the Designer that created the unique unrivaled automotive vehicles. Boris L. Shaposhnik was the hero of Socialist labor of the USSR, laureate of Lenin prize of the USSR, Honored worker of sciences and engineering of the Belorussian SSR, Doctor of Engineering Science. He was born on the 17th of December, 1902.

Even during the lifetime of Boris L. Shaposhnik his name became a legend. There are many vehicles under his belt: MAZ-525, the first 25-ton dump truck; MAZ-529, a single-axle truck tractor; MAZ-535 and MAZ-537 all-wheel-drive truck tractors; MAZ-543, MAZ-547, MAZ-7912, MAZ-7904, MAZ-7917 chassis and many others. It is worth noting that MAZ-543 chassis designed for the "Temp-S" was so successful that for many years it had become the base for vehicles of Minsk wheel tractor plant, JSC. After upgrading MAZ-543 chassis and its versions were used for a number of artillery missile systems like "Elbrus", "Pioner", "Rubezh", "Bereg", "C-300", "Smerch" and others.

Dignitaries of different ministries and government agencies, MWTP’s veterans of labor and the representatives of Belarussian and Russian partner companies were the special guests at the event. Moreover, for them there were organized the vehicles exhibition and conducted tours of the plant.

For the mass media Igor L. Letov VOLAT’s General Director summarized operating results in the last few years. In particular he pointed production export growth from $88 million in 2011 to $142,5 million in 2015, expected export level in 2016 is $146 million. Last 5 years sales profit increased from BYN 8,4 million to BYN 37,7 million, expected profit level in 2016 is about BYN 44,6 million.

Moreover, Igor L. Letov announced further plans for the plant development such as working at export growth and search for new markets, production modernization, houses construction for employees, pay rise and working conditions improvement.

In honor of outstanding services to the Plant the 17th of December is declared the VOLAT’s Public veteran organization Day and the day of the memorial monument unveiling in honor of Boris L. Shaposhnik, the first Chief Designer of special wheel tractors.
